Pakistan has expressed its concern over proposed move by the Trump administration to shift US embassy to Jerusalem, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday.
The decision would alter the legal and historical status of the city, it added.
According to a senior US administration official, President Trump would make the landmark announcement- which flies in the face of warnings from America’s allies across the region and the world – at 1800 GMT from the White House.
Moreover, the step would constitute a clear violation of international law and UN Security Council resolutions particularly UNSCR 478 of 1980. The decision would also undermine regional peace and security, as well as, derail any prospects in the Middle East.
The people and government of Pakistan are unequivocally opposed the controversial plan of shifting the US Embassy.
Islamabad has already endorsed the recently adopted Final Communique of the OIC on this issue.
While reaffirming solidarity with the Palestinian people, the government of Pakistan has renewed its call for establishment of a viable, independent and contiguous State of Palestine, on the basis of internationally agreed parametres, the pre-1967 borders, and with Jerusalem as its capital.
