KARACHI: Former captain Younis Khan is confident Pakistan can overcome India in the ICC Champions Trophy in June this year.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the Champions Trophy at the University of Karachi today afternoon, the veteran batsman said Pakistan are capable of reaching the semifinals and finals of the upcoming ICC tournament.
“We have defeated India in the [Champions Trophy] tournament before, we can defeat them again,” he said.
Lauding Sarfraz Ahmed’s captaincy, Younis said the limited-overs skipper has a brilliant opportunity to take his side one step farther.
“Sarfraz should be handed captaincy across all three formats for an extended period,” said the country’s all-time leading Test run-scorer.
On Mohammad Irfan’s one-year ban over spot-fixing, Younis took a softer approach and said the fast bowler had made a mistake and deserved a chance for reformation.
The glittering trophy of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 reached Karachi University after making stops at Edhi Home and Hawke’s Bay during its tour of the city.
