KARACHI: According to authorities, a child and his sister who had supposedly vanished from their house in North Nazimabad on Tuesday came home safely on Wednesday.
A Rangers representative asserted, however, that the situation was one of kidnapping because the mother of the brothers had received a call requesting a ransom of Rs. 1 million to be released.
The family said that a 12-year-old kid and his 11-year-old sister had left their Block-H home on Tuesday night to buy burgers, Central SSP Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi informed Dawn.
He did, however, add that the kids told the police they had left the house following a fight with their maternal aunt.
According to the police, on Tuesday night, someone brought the two siblings to his or her house. After the missing siblings’ case gained attention on social media and in the media, the missing siblings were left in front of a Hyderi mall.
The police were summoned to the scene by a bystander who had alerted them to their presence, and they were taken to the police station.
According to the SSP, the siblings were living with their maternal relatives after their parents got divorced. Their mother worked and resided in Dubai, while their father had moved on and married someone else after their divorce.
In accordance with Pakistan Penal Code section 364-A, the Hyderi Market police filed a First Information Report (FIR) and began an investigation.
According to SSP Siddiqi, both siblings expressed dissatisfaction in their statement, claiming that their maternal aunt and grandmother treated them badly at home. After a fight with their maternal aunt, they had left home on their own.
According to a Rangers spokesman, the police and paramilitary group worked together to stop the kidnapping attempt.
The spokesman went on to say that the kidnappers had demanded Rs. 1 million in ransom from the brothers’ mother, who had received a call from overseas.
Following the receipt of information, the police and Rangers used their technological means to track down the kids.
According to a Rangers statement, “the kidnappers abandoned the children in Hyderi Market in order to avoid their arrest.”
