ISLAMABAD: The president appointed Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah as the new chief of naval staff on Thursday.
President Mamnoon Hussain approved the name of Admiral Zakaullah for the top slot of the Pakistan Navy on the advice of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Earlier, Muhammad Zakaullah served as vice chief of the naval staff.
The new naval chief of staff was commissioned in the Operations Branch of the Pakistan Navy in June 1978, and is a recipient of the Sword of Honour.
Zakaullah has had the privilege of commanding the Pakistan Naval Academy and the 25th Destroyer Squadron.
The new naval chief is expected to assume his responsibilities on October 7 according toExpress News, as outgoing naval chief Admiral Asif Sandila’s retirement is likely to happen in the first week of October.
