ISLAMABAD: Citing scheduling issues among other reasons, Pakistan has declined Switzerland’s invitation to the Ukraine Peace Summit.
Switzerland sent Pakistan an invitation to the conference, which will take place on June 15 and 16. However, Pakistan is not attending this conference due to a number of reasons, including scheduling conflicts, FO Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated during the weekly media briefing.
The goal of the two-day summit, which is taking place at the Bürgenstock resort outside of Lucerne, Switzerland, is to garner support from around the world for Ukrainian President Zelensky’s ten-point peace formula, which outlines the country’s vision of peace.
Though 160 countries were invited, only around 90 have accepted. Notable exclusions include China and a number of significant Global South countries that have demonstrated a reluctance to participate in peace talks and an anti-Russian conference while Moscow is away.
Beijing denied the charge.
Because Moscow is not present, there aren’t many realistic expectations for the results.
Given that Russia is not taking part in the summit, Islamabad’s decision to cancel it is a diplomatic attempt to retain its neutrality in the crisis. Pakistan has always had cordial connections with Ukraine—it has even bought weaponry from them in the past—but in recent years, it has also been fortifying its bonds with Russia.
“We emphasize the need for diplomacy and dialogue for an early negotiated end to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia and reiterate our call for an immediate cessation of hostilities,” the spokeswoman stated.
Pakistan is committed to upholding the principles of the UN Charter, which include equitable security for all states, peaceful resolution of conflicts, respect for state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the non-use or threat of using force, universally and consistently.
Attacks by IIOJK
Delhi has denied any role in the most recent wave of violence in India-held Kashmir, according to spokeswoman Baloch.
Such careless remarks are frequently made by the Indian occupation authority and the media. These accusations are not taken seriously,” the woman added. In response to a follow-up inquiry, she stated that these were unverified news stories and that she had no comment to make.
Twelve people have been killed and numerous others injured in a series of attacks over the last three days, according to police in India-held Kashmir. The attacks are allegedly the product of Pakistani orchestration.
UN document
The moment has come for Israel to be held accountable, according to Pakistan, which praised the report of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel.
“We call on global conscience to force Israel towards an immediate and unconditional ceasefire,” the statement stated. Ending the conflict against the Gazan people is also essential.
Along with her hopes for a long-lasting and durable truce and an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, she also applauded the UN Security Council for adopting Resolution 2735.
