ISLAMABAD On Thursday, a delegation from the MQM-P led by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori paid a visit to caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar and spoke with him about the political climate in the nation.
According to a press release from the PM Office, MQM-P leaders Dr. Farooq Sattar and Mustafa Kamal were also present during the meeting.
The MQM-P leaders praised PM Kakar for the actions done by the interim administration to stabilize the economy of the nation.
Dawn was informed by a MQM-P source that talks also took place on the creation of a new government. The PML-N and MQM-P will be the two mainstream political parties in the upcoming federal cabinet, the source said, following the PPP’s decision to not participate in the Central government.
The political climate and the structure of the government are also discussed.
Recall that the MQM-P has already requested for Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of the PML-N, to lead four federal ministries in the federal cabinet.
The PML-N and MQM-P have reached an agreement wherein the current governor of Sindh, Tessori, a prominent member of Muttahida, will retain his esteemed position in the province under the new arrangement.
According to sources, PPP had already been granted the deputy speaker position in the National Assembly by the PML-N, although MQM-P had requested it. Currently, four portfolios in the federal cabinet are what the MQM-P demands.
The MQM-P, a party based in Karachi that has long advocated for devolution of powers, has also wanted legislation to strengthen local governments in addition to its participation in the cabinet.
A struggle for desired positions in the provinces and the center has begun within the ranks of the parties.
According to PPP sources, Shehbaz Sharif would serve as prime minister and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari will succeed him as president of the nation, as per the agreement between the PPP and PML-N. In addition, the PPP has insisted on being appointed governor of Punjab.
