Pakistan has dominated and made headlines with the T20 cricket format ever since its inception. It is only fitting that most of the records in T20 cricket belong to Pakistani players.
The latest entry to the list of T20 records is Mohammad Hafeez. The Pakistani veteran has become the first cricketer to score 1,500 runs in T20 international cricket and take 50 wickets alongside.
Hafeez took his 46th wicket back in 2014 and since then, had been struggling with his bowling action. He was later barred from bowling on numerous occasions which delayed his progress. He resumed bowling and picked up three more wickets before being banned again.
The off-spinner recently got cleared for bowling again. He made his comeback for the tri-series against Zimbabwe and Australia and only needed two balls to reach to 50 wicket mark
Currently, Hafeez’s tally stands at 1,665 runs and 51 wickets. Of all the batsmen who have scored over 1,500 runs, no one has taken more wickets than Hafeez (51) and Shoaib Malik (27).
Only 5 players have crossed the mark of 1,000 T20I runs and 50 wickets, which are as following:
Player | Matches | Runs | Bat Avg. | 50s | Wickets | Bowl Avg. | Econ |
Shahid Afridi | 99 | 1,416 | 17.92 | 4 | 98 | 24.45 | 6.63 |
Shakib Al Hasan | 66 | 1,265 | 21.81 | 6 | 77 | 21.01 | 6.75 |
Mohammad Hafeez | 82 | 1,665 | 22.50 | 9 | 51 | 23.00 | 6.66 |
Dwayne Bravo | 66 | 1,142 | 24.30 | 4 | 52 | 28.27 | 8.46 |
Thisara Perera | 73 | 1,020 | 23.72 | 2 | 50 | 30.52 | 9.10 |
Mohammad Hafeez has been a reliable all-rounder for Pakistan cricket. He has led Pakistan in all three formats and maintains a great all-round record in Tests, ODIs and T20Is.
