PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to suspend mobile phone services on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
According to provincial Interior Secretary Siraj Ahmad, mobile phone services will be suspended in all twelve districts of the province which include Kohat, Hangu, Peshawar, DI Khan, Mansehra, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Lucky Marwat, Bannu, Tank and Abbottabad.
Siraj Ahmad further disclosed that the decision had been taken in order to maintain foolproof security measures for the safety and security of the participants of the Muharram processions. Mobile phone services will remain suspended near mourning processions and nearby areas.
Muharram processions have been targeted by banned militants and outlawed outfits across Pakistan in terrorist attacks. Keeping in mind the prevalent circumstances in the country, the government has announced this measure to ensure safety of all Muslim communities.
