QUETTA: Warning against worsening of the situation on the Afghan border, Minister for States and Frontier Regions retired Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch has said that it is the responsibility of the political leadership to deal with the problem.
He was talking to reporters at an Imambargah where he had gone to convey condolences from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the family of Maj Ali Jawad Changezi who had died in Afghan firing across the Torkham border.
The minister advised the Afghan government to take some constructive steps in this regard.
Pakistan would not forget the loss of its official at the hands of Afghan border forces and the nation was proud of its martyrs, he said.
Linking the border tension to the implementation of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, he said Pakistan had never considered Afghanistan its enemy but India was conspiring to strain the relations of the two countries.
Mr Baloch urged the political leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan to defuse the tension and make the borders peaceful.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the armed and security forces to continuing their efforts to eliminate terrorism from the country.
