The Turkish national carrier had to make an emergency landing in New York after a pilot collapsed in midair, resulting in the pilot’s death, the airline reported on Wednesday.
Tuesday night, the aircraft departed from Seattle, a coastal city in western Washington, according to airline spokesperson Yahya Ustun’s post on X, the previous Twitter platform.
He stated, “During our Airbus 350 flight TK204 from Seattle to Istanbul, the pilot collapsed.”
“He died before landing, despite the flight crew of another pilot and a co-pilot deciding to make an emergency landing after an unsuccessful attempt to administer first aid.”
The 59-year-old pilot, who has been employed by Turkish Airlines since 2007, passed a medical exam in March and there were no signs of any health issues, according to Ustun.
