KARACHI: As part of the security plans for the visiting Iranian president, traffic authorities agreed on Monday to shut down a number of important thoroughfares to automobile traffic for at least two hours on Tuesday (today).
Although the city commissioner had already declared today a public holiday, businesses such as banks, the stock market, federal government offices, the Supreme Court, the High Court, and district courts will remain open.
Regarding security issues, the traffic police modified their original strategy.
The road from the airport to the PIDC traffic intersection, both tracks of Sharea Faisal, Shahrah-i-Quaideen, and Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed Road would be closed on Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m., according to DIG-Traffic Ahmed Nawaz.
Both tracks of M.A. Jinnah Road from Guru Mandir to Garden Chowk (Amma Tower) shall be closed from 3 to 5 p.m.
In order to minimize inconvenience, the DIG suggested that the residents take alternate routes.
