Following the release of a video purporting to show the lawmaker engaging in “misbehavior” with a sub-inspector, the Punjab Government served PML-N MPA Malik Waheed with a show-cause notice on Tuesday.
The PML-N legislator was seen putting pressure on Sub-Inspector Yasir Naseeb in a video that went viral on social media after the policeman allegedly searched the MPA’s car on Sunday night on Lahore’s GT Road.
“What made you bang on the door of my car?” In the video, Waheed could be heard stating. Waheed also threatened to make things “very bad” for the officer if he didn’t apologize.
In the footage, the police officer could be seen apologizing to the legislator.
After learning about the occurrence a day ago, the chief minister declared that an investigation was under progress and that appropriate action would be taken.
According to the chief minister’s office show-cause notice, which Dawn.com has a copy of, CM Maryam expressed grave worries over the issue and instructed the lawmaker to respond within three days.
In a separate statement, the Punjab government claimed that CM Maryam, who is also the senior vice president and top organizer of the PML-N, informed the responsible police officer that she had taken notice of the occurrence and had given the PML-N leader a show-cause notice.
When Naseeb stopped the MPA and searched his car, he explained to the chief minister that he was doing so in response to a police dispatch about a conflict.
He claimed that the reason the car was stopped was because it appeared suspicious.
The sub-inspector stated that he felt it was unnecessary to apologize, but he eventually did so at the MPA’s request.
CM Maryam expressed her regret and expressed her “embarrassement” that the officer had to endure humiliation.
“Never apologize for carrying out your responsibility. Maryam stated, “You were carrying out your task; you verified them; it was your obligation, and you fulfilled it.
She stated that no one was above the law and that “this is your job and this is why the state has kept you and you did your job well.”
“The MPA ought to have contacted us if he had a complaint. According to the inquiry report, we would have conducted an investigation and taken appropriate action, Maryam continued.
She emphasized that it is especially important for legislators to uphold the law and serve as an example for the public.
In addition, the chief minister questioned Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana on Naseeb’s purported transfer following the incident and instructed him to never act without first consulting her should a similar situation arise.
