SWAT/LAKKI MARWAT: Two attacks in Swat and Lakki Marwat on Tuesday night resulted in the deaths of three suspected militants and the injuries of two police officers, according to sources.
The first incident happened in Swat when a police detachment was patrolling the Asharay area of Matta tehsil when it was ambushed by terrorists.
Five masked suspects were seen on the road around 11:40 p.m. by police from the Asharay station in Matta tehsil, according to Swat DPO Dr. Zahidullah, who spoke with Dawn.
The guys in masks opened fire on the police team without warning, wounding constable Zakaria and sub-inspector Noor Wali Shah.
Two of the five attackers were instantly killed by police gunfire in reprisal, according to the DPO.
Ahmad Hussain and Zahir Khan, who lived in Khwazakhela Tehsil in the Swat area, were eventually identified as the deceased. The other three men in masks got away.
The two deceased males were previously the subject of multiple FIRs for robbery and theft filed at various police stations throughout Swat. Two handguns, one in.30 caliber and the other in 9mm, were found on the dead suspects.
A suspected insurgent in Lakki Marwat was slain late on Tuesday night in the Tor Lawangkhel area during an intelligence-based operation.
According to a police officer, after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there, the counterterrorism department and the police together initiated the operation.
He claimed that a sizable group of law enforcement officers arrived and confronted the terrorists.
“The law enforcement officers repelled the militants’ attack with automatic weapons, leading to a violent altercation that lasted for a while,” the speaker stated.
After conducting a search, police found the body of a terrorist named Inam who lived in Shagai.
“The deceased militant’s accomplice absconded under the cover of darkness,” he continued.
Police were looking for Inam in connection with several incidents, including attacks on police, bomb blasts, and extortion.
