Hundreds of people on Sunday braved cold to attend the last rites of a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Rayees Ahmad Dar who was killed in an encounter with government forces in Kakapora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Dar was laid to rest in Kakapora town amid pro-freedom sloganeering, said witnesses.
He was killed after forces cordoned off Beegumbagh village at around 5 pm last evening.
“During search operation, the forces also laid ambush at many places around the village. In the meantime, militants riding two bikes fired on the forces triggering a gunfight. In half an hour long encounter, one militant was killed,” said police sources.
Dar, 25, had completed three years diploma in civil engineering and was working as contractual IT trainer in a college in Rafiabad.
He was locally known as Rayees engineer.
Locals alleged that his brother was beaten up locally when his brother went to the camp for his body.
