ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl convened a workers’ convention in the nation’s capital on Thursday, declaring it as the start of a nationwide demonstration against suspected election manipulation.
Speaking to the JUI-F’s “Islamabad general council,” party leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman claimed that on February 8, the country saw the worst election tampering in its history. He claimed that the extent of the manipulation of the 2024 polls exceeded even the rigging of the 2018 elections. He claimed that the public mandate has been transformed into a farce, allowing the assemblies to stand on erroneous findings.
In order to determine the future course of action, the JUI-F announced that meetings of the party’s general assemblies have been summoned as part of the initial stage of its planned protest drive. These meetings will be followed by feedback sessions with the provincial chapters.
Maulana Fazl stated, “Once again our desire as well as our longing for the supremacy of Constitution & promotion of democracy in the country has been crushed.” “After the 2018 elections, it was anticipated that the 2024 elections would be fair.”
He said, “Parliament is called the supreme body, but how can those members be called the people’s representatives if the establishment continues to interfere [in politics] and choose representatives of its choice?” “I am arguing that the establishment has shattered a 75-year corrupt record in this election; the truth is that respect is earned by character, not by uniforms.”
Regardless of their political affiliations, the JUI-F emir projected that these carefully chosen delegates would always be the target of criticism.
He claimed that the public had also been informed of the decision reached by the party’s central executive council.
“We are the defenders of democracy, our forefathers signed this document, and we believe it is our duty to preserve it. However, it appears that the Constitution has become obsolete, reduced to a piece of paper with no intrinsic value.”
