AMMAN: The Jordanian army announced on Monday that it has successfully launched several food and other humanitarian supply drops into the beleaguered Gaza Strip, one of which was facilitated by a French army aircraft.
On the orders of Jordanian King Abdullah II, Jordanian military conducted “four air drops carrying aid for the people of Gaza,” according to a statement.
The operation took place on the same day that two human rights organizations charged Israel with ignoring a ruling from the UN’s highest court by continuing to restrict humanitarian aid into Gaza, where the UN has issued famine warnings.
Since the Israeli invasion of Gaza, Jordan has carried out sixteen airdrop operations in total. The Jordanian field hospital in northeastern Gaza received medical supplies and other relief through previously publicized air drops, which included a collaborative operation with the Netherlands.
According to a statement from the Jordanian army, Monday’s action “aimed to deliver aid to the residents immediately and to drop it across the coastline of the Gaza Strip from north to south.”
According to the statement, it included “food supplies and relief, including packaged food of good nutritional value to alleviate the conditions of the residents of the Gaza Strip.”
