PESHAWAR: Security forces in North Waziristan on Monday killed eight militants, including the one who carried out the attack on an army camp on March 16, according to the military’s media wing.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, security personnel carried out an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in response to rumors that there were militants in the vicinity.
Eight terrorists, including the commander and a high-value target, Shera alias Janan, were shot and killed following a fierce gunfight with security troops.
According to ISPR, Janan was also the mastermind of the incident on March 16 that resulted in the martyrdom of seven security personnel, including two officers.
According to the statement, he was a wanted man by the authorities.
It declared, “The security forces of Pakistan are resolute in their efforts to eradicate the threat of terrorism from the nation. Sanitization operations are being carried out to eradicate any additional terrorists discovered in the area.”
The operation happened two days after six terrorists broke into a Frontier Corps post in Mir Ali, North Waziristan’s Khaddi market region.
At 6:15 a.m., the militants crashed a car packed with explosives into the gate. Several explosions, including a suicide bombing, then occurred.
After the attacks, part of the structure fell, causing five security guards to lose their lives.
In a follow-up clearance operation, the six militants were eliminated, and the operation’s leaders, Lieutenant Colonel Syed Kashif Ali and Captain Muhammad Ahmed Badar, accepted martyrdom.
The incident was attributed to a faction connected to Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a former government contractor who became militant leader after becoming a good Taliban.
