KARACHI: India has not requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) for placing it in a pool different from that of Pakistan in upcoming international tournaments, senior Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta said on Friday, in contrast with what the Indian media had reported earlier in the day.
Speaking on Geo News’ program ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, Gupta said such conditions are impossible to be applied in any ICC event. He, however, said that a request for not playing a bilateral series can be made.
Earlier, Indian media had reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to not place both India and Pakistan in the same group of international tournaments.
The reports surfaced amid heightened tensions between the two nuclear-armed adversaries over ceasefire violations at the Line of Control (LoC) and Indian atrocities in occupied Kashmir.
“Keeping in mind that the government has adopted a new strategy against Pakistan and in view of the public sentiment in the country, we request ICC not to put India and Pakistan in the same pool of the multi-nation tournaments,” Indian media had quoted BCCI president Anurag Thakur as saying.
