BURHANPUR: The Indian government has taken into custody 15 persons from Madhya Pradesh for celebrating Pakistan’s victory over India in the final of the Champions Trophy 2017, on Tuesday.
According to details, the suspects were allegedly bursting crackers and raising pro-Pakistan slogans after the men in green trounced India by 180 runs on Sunday to clinch their maiden Champions Trophy title.
According to Station Incharge Sanjay Phatak from Shahpur, these men have been arrested under IPC Section 120 B, Section 124 A.
Section 124, A, is a law of sedition under which any individual who by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or by visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or dislikeness to the Government established by law in India, shall be punished.
If found guilty, the sentence can be a fine or imprisonment for up to three years.
“Under section 124A, it is clearly mentioned that whoever tries to the contempt that nation’s dignity, action will be taken against such a person,” said Phatak.
After Pakistan shocked India to clinch the coveted Champions Trophy title, enraged Indian fans took to the streets and broke their television sets. Photographs of Indian captain Virat Kohli were set on fire and police were forced to deploy security personnel outside Mahendra Sindh Dhoni’s residence after the humiliating loss.
