In just two months after their last meeting, India and China began another official-level meeting on border management in Beijing on Monday.
A team of officials from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Ministry of Defence began the sixth round of the working mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs. The last meeting between the two countries was on February 10.
The frequency of the meeting indicates the urgency India has in implementing the Border Defence Cooperation Agreement, before the summer begins — when border incursions are usually the highest. Any Depsang-like incident this year will have a cascading impact, especially given the volatile political environment in the country due to the Lok Sabha elections.
