According to the police, a 20-year-old man was hurt on Wednesday in the Azizabad neighborhood of Karachi after becoming entangled in a loose kite string.
According to Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqi, the Central Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Awais was ensnared by kite string in Mohammadi Colony while riding a motorcycle.
The 20-year-old was reportedly taken to a hospital where his health was deemed to be stable, according to the SSP.
He continued by saying that the police were cracking down on both the making and flying of kites.
According to SSP Siddiqi, during their operations in various parts of district central, the police burned hundreds of “dangerous strings” after seizing them. This prevented any unfortunate situations.
The incident follows an intensified crackdown on kite flying by the Punjab police throughout the province following two fatalities caused by stray kite strings in Sargodha and Faisalabad.
The two events prompted Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to convene a meeting on Sunday to discuss the state of law and order and crime. At the meeting, she issued an order to launch a crackdown on the production, sale, and purchase of chemical string, which is used in kites.
In compliance with her orders, four people were detained by the police in Rawalpindi, and 340 kites and strings were found.
In a similar vein, as part of the campaign against kite flying, police had detained 422 kite vendors in Sahiwal and Okara.
