ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders have not been denied permission to meet with former prime minister Imran Khan, the Superintendent of Adiala Jail informed the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday. However, precautions are being taken to prevent any sabotage activities.
In response to a petition alleging that Superintendent Jail Asad Javed Warraich was in contempt of court for preventing PTI leaders Omar Ayub, Asad Qaiser, and others from meeting Imran Khan, the jail authorities notified IHC Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan that terrorists had been apprehended in the vicinity of the jail along with some explosive material that they intended to use in an attack on the jail premises.
Judge Khan instructed the jail administration to allow guests to meet Mr. Khan only with his prior approval.
The jail authorities’ report states that the officers tasked with keeping an eye on guests have been positioned so they can only see what is being talked, not hear it. According to Pakistan Prison Rules, 1978, Rule 556, this type of supervision plan is permitted.
According to the report, the IHC’s directives are being closely followed, and Mr. Khan’s attorneys have never been prevented from carrying the necessary stationery and will never be. The report did state that it will be examined before being brought inside the building.
The court postponed the case’s next hearing until March 15.
