KARACHI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has referred the matter of pending ICC Women’s championship series between Pakistan and India to the event’s technical committee.
India was scheduled to play a series against Pakistan as part of ICC women’s championship cycle this year between August and October, but they refused to honour the commitment despite Pakistan’s offer of playing the series at a neutral venue.
The ICC has now referred the matter to the event’s technical committee which is headed by Geoff Allardice, the ICC’s General Manager for cricket.
Although no deadline has been set for the ETC, a final decision on the series is expected before the inaugural ICC Women’s Championship concludes in Sydney on November 23.
Defending champion Australia has already qualified for the Women’s World Cup, while the remaining three sides will be confirmed from the last round of matches which begin on Friday.
The bottom four teams from the ICC Women’s Championship will have a second chance to qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup when they along with six other countries will play in the qualifying tournament in Colombo from 7-21 February 2017.
It is expected that India will have to forfeit its points in favour of Pakistan for not honouring the commitment of playing the series.
Pakistan, currently crawling at 7th place with three points ahead of Sri Lanka, will play New Zealand in the last round of ICC women championship this week.
