LAHORE: During Friday’s Quetta Gladiators vs. Islamabad United game at Gaddafi Stadium, Hawk-Eye, the dependable ball-tracking system, admitted to a rare human error in an unexpected turn of events. The glitch happened when Salman Ali Agha’s dismissal by Rilee Rossouw was inadvertently declared “not out.”
Hawk-Eye’s admission was made public by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in a statement, which also disclosed that the equipment precisely tracked the delivery for the Decision Review equipment (DRS).
According to a press release from the PCB, Hawk-Eye acknowledged that the device had accurately tracked the delivery in concern for the Decision Review device, indicating the impact as an umpire’s call as well as wickets as hitting.But because of a mistake on the part of the operator, inaccurate ball tracking data was transmitted, leading to an inaccurate conclusion.
The PCB also expressed remorse, saying, “Hawk-Eye explained that this (correct ball tracking data) would have been accessible within a few seconds after the wrong information was played on broadcast had processes been followed as expected.”
Hawk-Eye, which has been the only authorized ball-tracking system by the ICC since 2008, acknowledged its existence following Gladiators’ exciting three-wicket win over United, when Rossouw scored an important 34-run innings without losing.
