London: According to sources who spoke to Dawn, Hasan Nawaz Sharif, the son of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was declared bankrupt by the London High Court of Justice for failing to pay taxes he owed to the UK government.
The UK Gazette, which serves as the public record for insolvency cases, formally released the bankruptcy’s facts on Sunday.
The Gazette reports that Hasan Nawaz, a director of the company and resident of Flat 17, Avenfield House, 118 Park Lane, was declared bankrupt under case number 694 of 2023.
Following a case initiated by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC), the petition was submitted on August 25, 2023, and the bankruptcy order was issued on April 29, 2024. The lawsuit was based on overdue bills and liabilities, according to the petition.
According to reports, HMRC’s regular petitioner contracts management unit handled the case, and the law firm Kaur Maxwell represented them in court.
According to UK law, a bankruptcy order prevents a person from managing a business or serving as a director of a corporation without the consent of the court until the person is released from bankruptcy.
Hasan Nawaz is currently listed as a director in a number of UK-based companies in contravention of this ban.
According to reports, his inability to pay his outstanding debts to the UK tax department is what caused his bankruptcy.
The London Gazette contains the official bankruptcy record, which attests to the order’s issue and its legal ramifications.
