Ghulam Nabi Memon was named Inspector General of Police Sindh for the second time by the federal government on Sunday.
Up until today, Memon, a Pakistani police service BS-21 officer, has held the position of executive director of State Life Insurance Corporation.
“With the approval of the federal government, Mr. Ghulam Nabi Memon […] is transferred and post as Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Govt. of Sindh, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with immediate effect and until further orders,” stated a cabinet secretariat office notification, a copy of which is available on Dawn.com.
Memon has extensive experience in law enforcement and has held positions at the Pakistan High Commission in the United Kingdom as well as the UN Mission in Bosnia.
He was named the provincial police chief for the second time.
He was named the IGP for Sindh in 2022, but the caretaker administration replaced him with Riffat Mukhtar Raja.
Between 2019 to 2022, Memon also held the position of Additional IGP Karachi twice. He was an Additional IGP Special Branch as well.
Early in the 1990s, he enlisted in the police and was stationed in several Punjabi and Sindhi districts.
Additionally, from 2006 to 2008, he worked as a director at the Intelligence Bureau in Karachi. From 2011 to 2016, he twice held the position of Joint Director, IB Sindh.
In recognition of his professional accomplishments, the government granted him Tamgha-i-Imtiaz and Sitara-i-Shujahat.
On March 4, the Sindh government suggested to the federal government that he be named IGP Sindh.
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar has publicly criticized the federal government after the inexplicable delay in his appointment.
The minister had declared that the center’s stance went against the coalition parties’ agreement being broken.
