Mohammad Yousuf, a former batting prodigy, announced his resignation from the cricket selection committee on Sunday, claiming “personal reasons.”
Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said in March that the men’s national selection committee had been “reorganised” to include seven members with equal authority.
He declared that all seven members of the committee would have equal authority and that there would be no longer be a chairperson. “Most decisions will be made by them… in order to move toward a better outcome,” he stated.
Following Pakistan’s terrible performance in the T20 World Cup in May, Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were fired, and the selection committee underwent yet another restructuring in July.
The selection committee was made up of four voting members and five ex-officio, or non-voting, members once the two were eliminated.
Yousuf posted on social media platform X to announce his resignation.
He wrote, “I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan cricket. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege.”
“I wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness. I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players.”
Yousuf’s departure was announced by PCB, who stated that he wished to concentrate on other important duties at the cricket body.
A statement issued on Sunday said, “The PCB expresses its sincere gratitude to Mohammad Yousuf for his invaluable contributions during his tenure as a selection committee member.”
“Yousuf, as the batting coach at the High Performance Centre, will continue to play a crucial role at the PCB, sharing his vast knowledge and experience.”
The announcement further stated that Yousuf was the head coach of the Pakistan U-19 team that placed third in the ICC U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup 2024 in South Africa.
The PCB appointed Yousuf as head coach of the national U-19 team in November.
