GUJRAT: For the purpose of distributing bags containing dry food items as part of the Punjab government’s Nigehban Ramzan program, the land revenue field personnel and local body officials are verifying the information of families enrolled with the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
After the verification process, food bags would be sent to the doorstep of at least 97,021 families, according to official sources whose data had been provided by the Punjab government.
They said that through patwaris, union council secretaries, and other government officials, the verification of 54,946 families from the Gujrat tehsil, 30,995 families from the Kharian tehsil, and 11,050 families from the Sara-i-Alamgir tehsil was underway.
At a meeting of department heads held here on Thursday, Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Safdar Virk gave instructions to the assistant commissioners of the three tehsils to oversee the distribution of food bags and the verification procedures. At least 10 kg of flour and 2 kg of rice, sugar, ghee, and baisin will be packed in the bags.
Food bags will be distributed between March 5 and March 15.
In the meantime, the DC announced that a third-party audit of the distribution will be carried out in addition to updating the report on the daily distribution of food bags on the app created by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).
