ISLAMABAD: The PTI criticized the Pakistani Election Commission’s (ECP) decision on Tuesday to reschedule the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, referring to it as an extension of the “mandate theft” scheme.
The postponement of the Senate elections due to the failure to administer the oath to members on reserved seats in the provincial assembly, according to a party spokesperson, is “ridiculous” considering that heads of state were also elected without members on reserved seats in national and provincial assemblies.
The top election commissioner was named in the document as the “central figure” in the “poll robbery” plot.
The statement went on to say that the ECP’s choice was a continuation of the same plan that saw the mandate of the people stolen “under state patronage” following the general elections.
Party seeks Bushra Bibi’s medical examination in response to allegations of “poisoning”
Look into the threatening correspondence
A comprehensive and prompt probe into the threatening letters received to eight judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) was another demand made by the party.
According to the PTI spokesperson, the letters that contained lethal and toxic substances were likely delivered with the intention of intimidating judges and making them retract their letter to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) protesting intelligence services’ meddling.
The statement stated that following the letters, there is an even greater need for a prompt investigation and resolution of the issue of meddling in court matters, and that extra precautions should be taken to ensure the safety and security of the six judges and their families.
A PTI spokesperson urged the chief justice to move quickly to refer the judges’ letter to the entire court and conclude the subject rationally through public hearings.
Bushra’s medical examination
The party has also expressed serious worries about threats against Bushra Bibi, the spouse of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The spokesperson claimed that while she was being held at the Bani Gala sub-jail, suspicious and hazardous substances were being added into her food.
The rejection of Ms. Bibi’s constitutional right to a medical evaluation has put her life in jeopardy.
In addition to demanding that she be examined by a reputable physician at Shaukat Khanum Hospital, the party asked for an investigation into the claims in order to hold those responsible accountable.
The statement also condemned the re-arrests in a different instance of party leaders Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed, who are women.
The two women have been charged in a fresh case for allegedly occurring at the Kamar Mashani police station in Mianwali on May 9, during the protests. They are currently detained at the Kot Lakhpat jail.
According to the PTI spokesperson, state officials were so “petrified” by the two women’s popularity that their re-arrest was now their “top priority.”
He claimed there were a lot of unanswered issues regarding the judiciary’s silence on the matter.
