Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), Dr. Umar Saif has been given the privilege to represent Pakistan at the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) which will take place from June 22-24 at Stanford University in Silicon Valley, California.
Dr. Umar Saif, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), who is among the homesteaders of classifying and stimulating the entrepreneurial culture in Pakistan has been invited at the Summit where he will be exhibiting the work of Plan9 – PITB’s Tech Incubator, PlanX & TechHub Connect.
Dr.Umar Saif to Represent Pakistan at the 2016 Global Entrepreneurship Summit
Umar Saif is a Pakistani computer scientist and entrepreneur, who is famous for his work on using ICT solutions for emerging-world obstacles. He is also the patron of Plan9, Pakistan’s leading startup incubator and is often believed as one of the major forces behind the IT ecosystem in Pakistan.
In Nov 2011, Dr. Umar Saif was selected as the Chairman of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Secretary IT of the Government of Punjab, Pakistan. In this aspect, Dr. Saif is answerable for all public-sector IT projects in Punjab, such as e-governance, capacity-building of the IT industry, and IT-enabled citizen services. Saif’s work on indispensable technologies received the MIT Technovator Award in 2008 and was also named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2010. He is also the Editor-in-Chief MIT Technology Review Pakistan.
In recognition to his relevance to the country the Government of Pakistan awarded Umar Saif Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Star of Excellence), one of the top civilian Awards in Pakistan, in 2011. He has also being named among the “The 500 Most Prominent Muslims in the World in 2015 and 2016”.
