ISLAMABAD : In US, the Federal Court Eastern Virginia has issued orders for the release of prominent Kashmiri leader, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, reported a private TV channel on Friday. Dr Fai was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on July 19, 2011, for not abiding by some rules of the United States. Dr Fai was sent to Federal Prison in March 2012. Fai has been working for the resolution of the Kashmir dispute and has been organising international conferences and seminars. Dr Fai may be released in one or two days and due to weekend may be on Monday.
The court said in its order that Dr Fai exhibited good morals during his imprisonment and he has been working for the cause of Kashmiri nation. Dr Fai was born in the Wadwan village of Badgam district in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He completed his graduation from Srinagar’s Sri Pratap College. Dr Fai passed MA from Aligarh Muslim University before studying in Makkah. He then moved to the United States and did PhD in mass communication from Temple University, Pennsylvania. Fai was the executive director of the Kashmiri American Council (KAC), an organisation based in Washington, DC, at the time of his arrest. The KAC was formed by some members of the Kashmiri diaspora in July 1990. He was charged with receiving funds from abroad illegally.
