KARACHI: In order to stop additional losses, Syed Hafeezuddin, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Industries and Production, has instructed the management of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) to accelerate its resurrection.
During his visit to the PSM on Wednesday, he took serious notice of the poor state of the 100-bed Pakistan Steel Hospital, the disconnections of the gas and electric supplies, the water supply problems, and the failure to pay dues to retired and laid-off workers.
Hafeezuddin personally instructed the management of SSGC, Water Board, and K-Electric, according to a news release. He also gave the PSM chief executive strong instructions to resolve the issues immediately and provide a report for compliance.
The committee was updated on the general status of the revival process by Mohammad Asad Islam Mahni, the temporary CEO of Pakistan Steel Mills and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production.
A group of technical experts would soon visit the plant, he added, adding that the Russian corporation had expressed interest in reviving the mill.
