The wife of opposition figure Alexei Navalny, who passed away in prison last week, made charges that President Vladimir Putin was responsible for his demise, but the Kremlin dismissed them on Tuesday.
Naturally, these are blatantly baseless and deplorable charges made towards the head of state of Russia. However, since Yulia Navalnaya just became a widow a few days ago, I won’t comment, said Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin.
Millions of people watched the 47-year-old Navalnaya’s video speech, in which she swore to carry on her husband’s battle “for the independence of our country.”

In addition, Peskov dismissed the EU’s Monday demand for a “international investigation” into Navalny’s passing, which came after conversations between Navalnaya and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell in Brussels.
Peskov stated, “We are against such demands in general—all the more so from Mr. Borrell.”
In response to a question concerning the hundreds of Russians detained during memorial services for Navalny in recent days, he stated, “Law enforcement agencies are carrying out their duties in accordance with the law.”
Additionally, he stated that Putin’s decision, made on Monday, just days after Navalny’s passing, to bestow military orders on four senior officers at the federal penitentiary service was a product of “normal promotion procedures that run their own course.”
Navalny, who was imprisoned in 2021, inspired widespread demonstrations against Putin.
After being poisoned in Siberia with a nerve agent from the Soviet era and receiving treatment in Germany, he went back to Russia.
