After expelling ten Kashmir students in March this year for allegedly cheering for the Pakistan cricket team, Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in India’s Meerut has suspended two more Kashmir students whose names according to their parents never figured in the controversy.
In March this year, at least 67 students were expelled by the university for allegedly cheering for Pakistan cricket team. After the intervention of the state government the university authorities revoked the suspension order of 57 students while the fate of remaining 10 students was decided by Disciplinary Committee which after finding them ‘guilty’ expelled them. The expelled students were later on adjusted in Sri Sai University in Palam Pora and APG University Shimla.
“Everything was running smoothly now but three days before I received a letter from the Swami Vivekanand Subharti University authorities in which I was asked to take my son back to his home as they have suspended him from the University,” the father of a Varmul student Sheikh Ashfaq said.
The expelled student, pursuing BBA course said that his career is over and no college will provide him admission at this time. “The University authorities accuses me of appearing before media in the midst of controversy,” he said.
On the same charges the university has expelled another student Jehangir Ahmed from Kreeri in Pattan who was also pursuing BBA course. “Disciplinary Committee of the university had found only 10 students guilty and now all of a sudden when we were burning mid-night oil, the University authorities forced us to vacate from the college on the charges that we appeared before the media.
Confirming the suspension of two more students, a university official said that these students tried to malign the image of varsity in the media.
