LAHORE: The 21-story Arfa Kareem Tower-II (IT center) will be constructed in Lahore by the government of Punjab.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced that the IT education and “Film City” projects would be introduced in the city as soon as possible while presiding over a meeting on Tuesday about the “IT City” and “Lahore Knowledge Park” projects here.
She expressed her happiness that major IT businesses, like Microsoft and Oracle, had given their agreement to build offices in the “IT City” to be developed in Lahore. “Business opportunities will be provided to the best IT companies from all over the world in the IT City Lahore,” she stated.
She also gave the relevant authorities instructions to extend an invitation to significant Chinese IT firms to establish offices here.
Ms. Nawaz also gave her approval for the free Wi-Fi pilot project to be started in Lahore. The initiative calls for the establishment of free service, ideally in places of education, as well as at bus stops, train stations, and airports.
Within two weeks, free Wi-Fi service would be introduced in ten Lahore locations as part of Phase I of the project. The group was informed that free Wi-Fi stations would be set up at 516 locations throughout the city.
Tuesday saw the chief minister here receive a visit from US Consul General Kristin K. Hawkins.
The meeting’s discussions centered on expanding Pakistani students’ access to American higher education institutions with scholarships and fostering economic relations.
