WASHINGTON: Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has reclaimed his title as the richest person in the world, surpassing Elon Musk according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
The tracker estimates that Bezos is worth $200 billion, which is more than the $198 billion of the CEO of Tesla.
Musk, who also serves as the CEO of SpaceX and X (previously Twitter), has witnessed a more than $30 billion decline in wealth as a result of Tesla’s recent 25% share price decline.
Musk’s problems got worse when a judge in January decided to void his massive $55.8 billion Tesla pay deal, which was first signed in 2018.
Bezos, who is no longer in charge of Amazon, has profited from the company’s soaring stock price in the interim.
Even after selling off $8.5 billion in equities recently, he still holds the greatest stake in the business.
With a net worth of $197 billion, Frenchman Bernard Arnault, the CEO of LVMH, is still ranked third among the world’s richest people.
