Sources said militants attacked the army convoy somewhere between Sanat Nagar and Hyderpora. There was no clarity on the location of the attack.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Abdul Gani Mir told reporters that they are ascertaining the facts.
Reports said at around 12:30 suspected militants appeared near a car showroom on by-pass rand fired on an army convoy. The militants, after firing, escaped from the spot, sources added. Some reports said the militants were on a motorcycle.
The firing created panic in the area and resulted in traffic jam, witnesses said.
Soon after the incident a large contingent of forces reached the spot and laid a cordon. The forces started search operation and for about an hour, no vehicle was allowed, witnesses said.
“Gunshots were heard in Sanat Nagar area at around 12:30 PM. We are ascertaining who exactly was the target. There is no causality. One civilian has been injured after he was hit by a glass inside a car showroom which is situated on the highway. Search operation is on,” the IGP told reporters.
