QUETTA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has again summoned the Balochistan chief minister’s former adviser on finance Mir Khalid Khan Langove on Monday to clarify his role in a corruption case against former finance secretary Mushtaq Raisani.
Mr Raisani, Executive Engineer Tariq Ali and contractor Sohail Majeed Shah are already in detention, while the latter’s brother Asad Shah has also been arrested.
“NAB has arrested Asad Majeed Shah, younger brother of Sohail Majeed Shah, in Quetta,” an official said, adding that he was presented before Judicial Magistrate Hanif Baloch who remanded him in the bureau’s custody on Saturday for 10 days.
According to sources, Asad Shah is suspected of playing the role of a facilitator in the transfer of money gained through corruption and drawing local bodies’ funds from banks.
“More arrests are likely in the corruption case in view of the information NAB has collected during interrogation of the detained suspects,” the sources said.
They said NAB officials were making efforts to find evidence against other officials involved in plundering of local bodies’ funds during 2015.
However, the administrator of Khaliqabad and Mach, Saleem Shah, could not be arrested so far. He went into hiding after the arrest of Mr Raisani and seizure of Rs650 million from his residence.
NAB officials said two summons had been issued to Mir Langove through the Balochistan Assembly speaker but he had not appeared.
“Definitely I will appear before NAB authorities as I am not involved in corruption,” the National Party leader, however, told a news channel on Friday evening.
“The question of escaping from the country does not arise,” he said. “I have nothing to do with the corruption case against the former secretary,” he said, adding that he respected NAB and other institutions.
RESHUFFLE: Meanwhile, a reshuffle in the provincial finance department was carried out after the arrest and suspension of Mr Raisani.
Official sources said more than 10 officers, including additional and deputy secretaries and section officers, had been transferred to other departments.
Some senior officers were ordered to report to the Services and General Administration Department.
According to a notification, Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani has been appointed Finance Secretary, while Kalat Commissioner Dr Akbar Harifal will replace him. The sources said the entire team of the finance department had been changed on the orders of the new secretary.
