In a statement, Qatar-based Al Jazeera denounced the death of one of its journalists in an Israeli strike on Gaza yesterday, referring to the incident as a “targeted killing.”
Since Israel’s offensive in Gaza started more than 14 months ago, Ahmad Baker Al-Louh is the fifth journalist from Al Jazeera to be slain, according to AFP.
“The death of its cameraman, Ahmad Baker Al-Louh, 39, at the hands of Israeli occupation forces is strongly condemned by Al Jazeera Media Network,” the broadcaster stated.
“A Civil Defense post in the market area of Al-Nuseirat Camp, central Gaza Strip, was the target of an airstrike that brutally killed him,” the statement continued.
Louh was a member of Islamic Jihad and “previously served as a platoon commander” for the organization, according to a statement from the Israeli military, which acknowledged that it had killed him.
Mahmud Bassal, the spokesman for Gaza’s civil defense agency, said that Louh had died in the attack on the Nuseirat camp, which also killed three people from Bassal’s rescue organization. A warplane had “targeted the Civil Defence site in Nuseirat camp,” Bassal told AFP.
