GWADAR: After successful talks with district authorities, a coalition of several political parties that had been staging a sit-in in the port city of Gwadar for the past 47 days broke off their demonstration on Thursday.
The district administration has been given a month by the alliance to resolve the problems that led to the demonstration.
Following the negotiations, both parties struck a seven-point agreement. The alliance leadership consequently made the decision to postpone their sit-in protest until the month of Ramadan.
The seven-point plan, which includes measures to stop illegal trawling, reduce load-shedding in Gwadar to provide 17 hours of electricity daily, provide a colony for local fishermen, expedite ongoing projects in the town by the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA), and guarantee a continuous supply of clean water to residents, was agreed to be immediately implemented by the district administration during the talks.
Gwadar Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Abdul Shakoor, Assistant Commissioner Mir Jawad Ahmed Zehri, and important alliance political and social figures attended the negotiations.
Director Marine Ahmad Nadeem, SDOs Shigar Allah Baloch and Naveed Mengal of Quetta Electric Supply Company, and GDA engineers Abdul Razak and Nadir Baloch were among the other noteworthy guests.
