GILGIT: After being shuttered for seven months, the popular tourist destination, Babusar Road, reopened for light traffic on Monday.
The route was closed due to heavy snowfall in the area.
The Babusar route was reopened for minimal traffic on Monday, according to Diamer deputy commissioner Fayyaz Ahmed, after snow was removed from Babusar summit and surrounding areas.
He stated that till Eidul Azha, traffic on the Babusar Road from the KP and GB sides has been permitted from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.
Traffic movement has been restricted to daylight hours due to the possibility of significant snowmelt during the day and freezing at night, according to the deputy commissioner.
He added that following Eidul Azha, new road travel hours will be issued.
The Met Department’s travel advisory should be strictly followed, commuters have been cautioned.
Travelers and visitors are asked to plan their excursions on Babusar Road after reviewing the Met Department’s cautions and alerts, per the advisory.
By road: the trip from Diamer to Mansehra via the Babusar route takes seven hours, whereas the Karakoram Highway takes fourteen hours.
