According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), since the conflict with Israel started about 15 months ago, the population of Gaza has decreased by 6%. Approximately 100,000 Palestinians have fled the territory, and over 55,000 are thought to have died, according to Reuters.
According to the bureau, which cited data from the Palestinian Health Ministry, since the conflict started, almost 45,500 Palestinians have been murdered, with over half of them being women and children. An additional 11,000 people are reported missing.
The PCBS reported that over a million, or 47 percent of the overall population, are under the age of 18, and that the population of Gaza has decreased by roughly 160,000 during the conflict to 2.1 million.
Israel has “raged a brutal aggression against Gaza targeting all kinds of life there; humans, buildings, and vital infrastructure,” the statement continued. The civil register was cleared of entire families. Both material and human losses are disastrous.
Al Jazeera broadcasts are suspended by the Palestinian Authority.
According to AFP, which cites official media, the Palestinian Authority on Wednesday ordered the suspension of transmissions by Qatar-based Al Jazeera throughout the Palestinian territories, claiming the network was broadcasting “inciting content.”
According to the official Wafa news agency, “the specialized ministerial committee, which consists of the ministries of culture, interior, and communications, has decided to suspend broadcasts and freeze all activities of Al Jazeera satellite channel and its office in Palestine.”
“Due to Al Jazeera’s violations of the laws and regulations in effect in Palestine, the decision also includes temporarily freezing the work of all journalists, employees, crews, and affiliated channels until their legal status is rectified,” the report stated.
“Al Jazeera’s insistence on airing reports and content that are characterized by misinformation, incitement, sedition, and meddling in Palestinian internal affairs is the reason for this decision,” the statement continued.
According to an Al Jazeera staffer who spoke to AFP, the network’s Ramallah headquarters was issued a suspension notice on Wednesday.
Images of what seemed to be Palestinian security agents entering the network’s Ramallah office later on Wednesday and delivering the suspension orders were shown by the station, but the Palestinian Authority’s action was not met with any response.
