Due to bad road conditions, a young woman lost her life on Tuesday when her scooter skidded on Karachi’s uneven Rashid Minhas Road near Jauhar Mor and collided with a dump truck.
Sara Iqbal, 23, was traveling from the Nipa Bridge towards Drigh Road when her scooter slipped on the uneven street close to Sunny Pride Apartments on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, according to Deputy Inspector General-Traffic (DIG) Ahmad Nawaz Cheema, who spoke with Dawn.com.
Cheema told Dawn.com, “A dump truck (TKM-214) coming from behind ran over her, and she died on the spot.”
He stated that the car was turned over to Sharea Faisal police for an inquiry after the driver left the site.
Rain caused potholes to form on Rashid Minhas Road and other roads throughout the city, Cheema continued.
The head of traffic police noted that “after rains, the dilapidated road infrastructure is not only hampering smooth flow traffic but also causing road accidents.”
He continued by saying that traffic cops were patching up any gaps or holes that had been made in the roadways.
DIG Cheema stated, “We are attempting to make roads motorable after rains on our own.”
In November 2023, a medical conference called attention to the perils of deteriorating road conditions. It was discovered that approximately 500 individuals, primarily motorcycle riders, sustain injuries in traffic incidents in Karachi every day and are referred to emergency rooms for medical attention.
