DERA MURAD JAMALI: On Thursday, the Dera Allahyar business community held a sit-in in protest of the rising number of theft and robbery occurrences in the region. As a result, traffic was suspended on the National Highway for many hours.
At Dera Allahyar’s Zero Point, the traders gathered and blocked the road.
They claimed that armed bandits broke into a gas station in Allahyar town the other day, taking Rs. 8.8 million from the business’s proprietor, Fahad Khosa, and hurting his brother in the process as he opposed the takeover.
They said that in spite of the business community’s repeated requests for protection, local authorities have taken no concrete action, which has given the criminals more confidence and allowed them to continue committing crimes in the region with impunity.
Passenger buses, trucks, and other vehicles were seen in lengthy lines on both sides of Dera Allahyar, making it impossible for people to commute.
Protesters claimed that even during the day, people feel unsafe in the region due to an upsurge in lawlessness.
Protesters were negotiated with by Jaffarabad SSP Faryal Farid, DSP Muhammad Dawood Khosa, and local government representatives.
She gave them her word that increased security would be implemented in the area and that all reasonable measures would be taken to apprehend thieves who stole from the gas station.
The activists ended their sit-in after receiving the guarantee, and traffic was allowed to resume on the road.
