ISLAMABAD: The Lasbela district of Balochistan provided an environmental sample, and the results showed that wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) was present.
According to a representative of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication, the virus was discovered in a sewage sample taken from Lasbela.
According to Federal Health Minister Dr. Nadeem Jan, children worldwide and on both sides of the Pakistan-Afghan border are still at risk as long as this virus persists. This means that cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan in eradicating it is essential.
The poliovirus is the highly contagious disease polio. Children below the age of five are primarily affected. It can result in death or paralysis because it invades the nerve system.
