ISLAMABAD: On Monday, the Margalla Hills Tree Plantation Drive was initiated by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
The CDA’s environment wing claims that as part of this initiative, the municipal organization will plant a million trees on the slopes. Attaullah Tarar, the Federal Information Minister, and Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Climate Change Coordinator, planted a seedling to officially commence the drive at a ceremony close to Trail 3.
Speaking at the event, the information minister stated that the Margalla Hills are an integral part of Islamabad’s identity and that it is the government’s and the people’s joint duty to keep these hills safe from danger.
He went on to say that Islamabad had better air quality than other cities.
According to Mr. Tarar, planting an increasing number of saplings will help address the significant challenge of climate change. In order to protect the future of the next generation, he asked every segment of society to actively participate in tree-planting programs.
According to the minister of information, Pakistan only makes up two percent of carbon emissions, but as it is the nation most affected by climate change, high carbon emission countries should work with Pakistan to address the issue.
In addition, Romina Khurshid Alam, the organizer for PM, encouraged planting trees and emphasized the necessity of concerted efforts to ensure the success of tree plantation projects.
The CDA claims that the event’s goals were to combat climate change and raise awareness of environmental issues brought on by heat waves and human activity.
The PM’s aide and the information minister were thanked by CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa for their attendance and support at the CDA-organized event.
The CDA chairman emphasized the promises made by corporations and civil society to plant four million trees, with the civic body having already planted one million trees.
