LOCHEM: According to Dutch officials, a section of a bridge that was still under construction fell on workers on Wednesday, killing at least two people and injuring two more.
The bridge was in the process of being partially assembled at Lochem, in the eastern region of the nation, when the cables supporting it broke, causing it to fall to the ground.
Drones were buzzing overhead, and a mobile command unit comprising police, engineers, and the fire department had been set up, according to a reporter on the scene. After several hours, the second body was found by the authorities at the accident scene late on Wednesday afternoon, according to the ANP news agency.
The accident, according to local mayor Sebastiaan van t Erve, shook the entire village. This route has been planned for 20 years. For the past five years, we have been developing the construction. And suddenly everything collapses in a single day, leaving two people dead and two injured,” the man remarked.
The accident’s cause is still unknown, according to the mayor, who added that investigations are still under progress.
He declared, “Standing by the individuals who have been impacted by this horrible incident is my first priority.”
