KARACHI: According to police and hospital officials, a “boiler explosion” at a plant in the Port Qasim area on Thursday claimed the lives of two workers and injured five more.
Seven persons were injured when a “boiler blast caused leakage of ammonia gas,” Malir SSP Kashif Abbasi informed Dawn.
They were brought to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where medical professionals pronounced Nasir, 22, and Kamran, 28, dead.
According to Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed, they suffered “chemical burns.” Khalid, Tanveer, Hassan, Haneef, and Usman were named as the injured.
Two more were admitted to the JPMC, while three were sent to the Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital in Karachi.
