PESHAWAR: According to the military’s media wing, nine terrorists were slain in two clashes with security forces in the North Waziristan district on Sunday.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that the terrorists were killed during intelligence-based operations (IBO).
Six terrorists were killed after security forces successfully stormed the terrorists’ stronghold, while two others were taken into custody in the Dosalli region.
It stated that the other IBO was conducted in the Esham region and that the gunfire resulted in the deaths of three terrorists and the injuries of two more.
The dead, who, according to the ISPR, continued to engage in a number of terrorist acts against security personnel in addition to murdering defenseless civilians, had weapons and ammunition collected by security forces.
According to the statement, the security forces were committed to eradicating the threat of terrorism from the nation and were carrying out sanitization operations to get rid of any additional criminals discovered in the area.
Security officers killed five militants, including their mastermind Shafiullah alias Shafi, in a similar operation on January 10 in response to reports of militant activity in Dera Ismail Khan’s Maddi district.
During a briefing on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 2, senior police officials informed the members of the KP Assembly that although the province’s law and order situation was unstable, militants were concentrating on the southern districts because of their closeness to Afghanistan and a “still intact” network across the border.
The parliamentarians were informed that militants had safe havens in the southern regions, including as Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, and Lakki Marwat, which is why they had been concentrating on them.
Speaker of the KP Assembly Babar Saleem Swati presided over the meeting, which was attended by parliamentary leaders from every political party in the house as well as parliamentarians mostly from the combined districts.
The parliamentarians were given a presentation on the current state of law and order, the operations conducted against the militants, and the police force’s ability to combat them, according to sources who were privy to the discussion.
