KARACHI: The Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency said Tuesday that Shahid Aslam has been reinstated by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as the batting coach of the national white-ball teams.
Shahid, a certified coach, has served with the Pakistani team for several years in a variety of roles, including assistant manager, fielding coach, and coach. However, he has been employed as a coach at the High Performance Center in Lahore for the past two years.
Prior to being appointed a national selector, former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf served as the national team’s batting coach. However, Yousuf then left his position as batting coach and selector to work at the HPC.
Yousuf recently left his job at the HPC as well, but the Board turned down his resignation.
On the suggestion of interim white-ball coach Aaqib Javed, Shahid has now been appointed as batting coach.
After Australian Jason Gillespie declined an offer to become an all-format coach, the PCB on Monday named Aaqib as the white-ball head coach till the ICC Champions Trophy early next year.
In order to join the players in Zimbabwe for a series of three ODIs and three T20 Internationals before heading to South Africa for another white-ball rubber, Aaqib, who will remain as senior national selector, has left.
